Damage Control

Little Green Man Tour

Round 5 | 20th August 2017

After a summer of jet setting (albeit not always smoothly), Joseph returned to familiar ground for round 5 of the Little Green Man tour held at Whilton Mill, entering the weekend sitting comfortably at the top of the points table and with every intention of increasing his lead.

Last year’s visit to Whilton Mill ended early with a Battenburg flag becoming a red flag just as Joseph was making his charge to the front of the grid. Could this year be an improvement?

Fastest Lap

In Heat 1 it certainly looked like this was going to be a good weekend for Joseph, starting in 13th (random grid) and charging the pack to finish a very good 8th, recording fastest lap as he did so.

In Heat 2 Joseph lined up 4th and again began a charge, but the very competitive pack around him held him to a 3rd place finish, but that didn’t stop him from again recording  fastest lap.

Heat 3 brought a starting position of 12th and yet another charge to the front, once again recording fastest lap and bringing the kart home in 7th, however the result was not to count as he was excluded by the stewards for “driving in a matter incompatible with general safety“.

On The Way Back

Joseph’s exclusion from the final heat meant that he would be starting 16th for the final, not what fastest lap after fastest lap had promised.

The Final

Making sure he steered clear of initial squabbling and slowly but surely picking up places, by lap 3 he had made up 2 places and by lap 5 another 2. Laps 7 through to 11 were where Joseph really shone, battling his way up to 7th, but he was not done there.

Continuing to find more pace from his Fullerton kart and recording the fastest lap of the race (more valuable points) on the penultimate lap, Joseph finished in a very respectable 4th considering his starting position.

Battling Back

The race certainly ended up being a case of damage control and it would be fair to say Joseph did a fantastic job of this. Making up 12 places in the race along with a fastest lap meant a good points haul to keep him at the top of the championship.

Getting Ready To Go

Next up is a double header at Rowrah in Cumbria, Joseph’s local track. Round 6 & 7 of the LGM Tour will be held here on the 27th & 28th August. A good performance here will ensure that when the series finishes in October at PF International, Joseph is in good standing to take the Championship.
