Trophy for Taylor
LGM at Whilton Mill | 28th & 29th July
With the pressure well and truly on following the last outings ‘nosecone nightmare‘ a win in round 6 at Whilton Mill was essential. A weekend of changing and unpredictable weather would add further challenges to the task in hand.
Joseph looked quick in the opening random-order sessions. Although impressive in heat 1 – finishing 5th from 10th – he did not manage to make his way to the front and take a win in the heats until heat 2 – finishing 1st. A penalty for exceeding track limits following scrutineering in heat 1 pushed him back down the field. In heat 3 a charge from 20th past 10 other drivers would result in a 10th place finish. All this would culminate in a staring position of 6th for the final.
A fantastic start gave 2 positions in the opening lap, 4th was held for a further lap before a battle for 2nd with Alessandro Caeronetti would begin. Positions would swap and it wasn’t until lap 9 that Joseph was able to make his move stick, with Oliver Bearman – pole sitter – charging away ahead. To the delight of eager fans the time between the two began tumbling and in lap 14 an outstanding move gave Joseph the lead. 1st place was held in impressive form, crossing the finish line for the race win 4 seconds ahead of the challenger behind.
Joseph has now built a comfortable gap at the the top of the points table with his closest rival 18 points behind. The penultimate round of the championship will be held at Glan-Y-Gors on the 19th August. Bonus points will be awarded to drivers competing in the last 2 rounds so we’re sure to see a competitive field.
