IAME Euro Series Round 2
Castelletto, Italy 23 May – 26 May 2019
Joseph headed to Italy lying 5th in the IAME Euro Championship standings, following a disappointing final in Fagnes. Having recently joined Strawberry Racing, Joseph was looking to put the opening round behind him and get to work pushing for crucial championship points.
Team Taylor were instantly filled with confidence when the opening qualifying practice times were displayed and Joseph was quickest out of a field of 50 drivers and he repeated the performance on Saturday in the Qualifying Heats with 1st and 2nd place finishes respectively.
Here’s what he had to say to the IAME Euro series organisers……….
With points awarded in Sunday’s Pre-Final and Final, a good result was required in both. Joseph drove an outstanding race in the Pre-Final defending his position well and after a brief stint in 1st, by the race mid-point he was 5th. An impressive charge for the lead then began and he would cross the line an eventual 2nd.
The Final saw a tightly contested battle for positions – starting 2nd he would find himself 4th by the end of a difficult opening lap. However, a spirited fightback ensued and with only 3 laps to go 2nd place was his! Despite a fantastic defensive drive he would cross the line in 4th – still a good result compared to the opening round, but unfortunately he would be relegated to 12th following a controversial nose-cone penalty.
Jospeh now sits 2nd in the Championship with 2 rounds to go.
Next up in the series is Wackersdorf, Germany 25 – 28 July 2019
