IAME EURO SERIES FINAL ROUND SALBRIS, FRANCE
Last weekend Team Taylor headed to Salbris, France to compete in the final round of the IAME Euro series. In the penultimate round a coming together in the final stages of the final significantly hurt Joseph’s championship title chances – so a strong weekend was certainly needed.
Having practised at the track a couple of weeks ago, confidence was certainly high – in his first heat he made up 4 places to finish 8th, in the second heat he finished 9th – making up 3 places and in the final heat 9 places were made up to finish 3rd.
The heat results gave a starting position of 11th out of 37 for the Pre-Final – not ideal, but certainly not too much of a problem for a driver with Joseph’s overtaking skills.
In this series points are awarded for both the Pre-Final and the Final so a strong showing in both was definitely required. After a quick warm up on the Sunday morning – where Joseph was quickest – the karts were called to the start for the Pre-Final. But as the drivers began to line up ready to be released on to the track, Joseph and his mechanic were not there! A last-minute decision to alter the tyres resulted in a late arrival to the grid and refused entry – disaster!
Joseph was awarded a Did Not Start (DNS) and zero points for the Pre-Final, effectively ending any hopes of a championship win. Frustrations were obviously high for the final and Joseph drove like a demon. Clearly he had a point to prove and an overtaking masterclass was demonstrated – a hugely impressive 21 places made up to give him 11th from the back.
Joseph ended the series in 6th, just 33 points behind the championship winner and left wondering what could have been achieved if he had been able to compete in the Pre-Final.
